Learning at Home

Learning at home at Lyndhurst Infant School

 

These are the expectations/guidance for each year group, however this may vary depending on individual needs of specific children.

 

Year R – approximately 10 minutes each day

  • Reading: We encourage children to read daily however please aim for AT LEAST 4 times per week. If your child is tired then sharing a book will also develop their Literacy skills.
  • Phonics: Every week your child will be tested on their phonic game. This comes home for them to learn and they will be moved on when they are ready for the next set.
  • Maths: Each half tem you will have a new Maths target. This comes home as a paper copy and is available to view on the Maths section of the website. Help your child to work through the key skills to achieve their target.

 

Year 1 – approximately 10 to 15 minutes each day

  • Reading: We encourage children to read daily however please aim for AT LEAST 4 times per week.
  • Spellings and Phonics: Every fortnight your child will have a set of spellings to learn and the phonic sounds covered in school. Please help them to practise them at home. They will be given out and tested on Fridays.
  • Maths: Each half tem you will have a new Maths target. This comes home as a paper copy and is available to view on the Maths section of the website. Help your child to work through the key skills to achieve their target.
  • Topic: There may also be some topic related challenges sent home periodically.

 

Year 2 – approximately 15 minutes each day

  • Reading: We encourage children to read daily however please aim for AT LEAST 4 times per week. (Year 2 classes have a Read-o-Meter, so sign the contact book to say that your child has read to you at home and help their class to be the read-o-meter champions!)
  • Maths: Each half term you have a new Maths target set. This comes home as a paper copy and is available to view on the Maths section of our website. Help your child to work through the key skills to achieve their target.
  • Spellings: Every week your child will have a set of spellings to learn. Please help them to practise them at home. They will be given out each Friday and tested the following Friday.
  • Topic: Sometimes we will send home a topic related challenge to support what we are learning in class. Please make sure that you return these on the date set as the children will need them for their lessons.
