Maths Weeks

Math Week 2017

During Maths Week, each class had the opportunity to attend the Maths Fair in the hall. They took part in a range of fairground games, such as Hook-a-Duck, Skittles and Lucky Dip - all with a mathematical twist!

Maths Week 2016

The answer to Tuesday's puzzle (How do you measure out EXACTLY 4 litres using a 5 litre jug and a 3 litre jug?) is as follows;

Fill up the 5 litre jug.

Pour that water into the 3 litre jug which leaves 2 litres in the 5 litre jug.

Tip away the contents of the 3 litre jug.

Pour the 2 litres that are in the 5 litre jug into the 3 litre jug.

Fill up the 5 litre jug.

Pour into the 3 litre jug which now only has space for 1 litre. This leaves EXACTLY 4 litres in the 5 litre jug!!

Perhaps if you didn't get the solution to this you can use this idea to help you solve the adult extension puzzle from yesterday which was 'How do you measure out EXACTLY 4 litres of water if you only have a jug of 8 litres and a jug of 5 litres?'

Maths Puzzle 3 (Wednesday) This is a co-ordinates activity for the children to do. Click on the link to see it.

Maths Puzzle 4 (Thursday) This is an Easter Sudoku puzzle that requires logical thinking skills. There is an easy one to get the children thinking and a slightly harder one to really begin applying their skills.

Finally, since Easter is the time for chocolate (!!) have a go at this little trick ;-) Chocolate Maths
