Rights Respecting Schools

We achieved our Recognition of Commitment in March 2013.  We are currently working towards our Level 1 award and hope to apply for the assessor to come into school at the beginning of the Summer term 2017.

Each class has made their own charters based on UNICEF’s Rights which all children sign up to at the beginning of the school year

There are 54 articles (rights) in the UN convention of children's rights. Click here to read them all.  We have decided to focus on the children learning 3 of them this year.

We have some new friends in school!

As part of our Rights Respecting Schools work we are introducing 3 new characters to help us to learn our rights.

  Learning Lobster

You have the right to learn and use and develop your talents and abilities.  You should learn to protect our environment (Article 29)

  Respectful Ray

You have the right to find things out and share what you think with others (Article 13)

 Safety Seal

You have the right to clean water, healthy food and a safe place to play (Article 24)

We will have a competition to name the characters over the next few months (May- Respectful Ray, June – Learning Lobster, July- Safety Seal)

The children receive sea creature stickers for respecting others' rights and certificates are awarded in assembly each Friday.
